From Depression Hair to Mermaid Green Flair

I asked my husband—Lake—to cut roughly eight inches of sad, matted, dry breakage off my hair, then bleach and dye my tips with at-home bleach and hair color kits. Here’s how it worked out! 

I want to note that he’s not a professional, and he’s never cut, bleached, or dyed a woman’s hair before. So, I’m extra proud of what an outstanding job he did and how cute my hair turned out!

Depression Hair Out In Full Force

This isn’t the greatest shot of it in the world, but you can see in this TikTok video just how dry and brittle my ponytail looks.

My hair looked much worse, more tangled, and a lot more matted when I got fed up and asked Lake to cut my hair for me because I didn’t feel like going through the process of going to a salon to get it done.

I hate it when I have to get my hair cut after I neglect it. I always feel awful going into a salon and letting someone I don’t know see just how bad I am at basic self-care. I feel guilty, shameful, and lazy on top of whatever other negative feelings put me in the lack of self care spiral in the first place.

So, I decided to skip the salon this time and just have Lake give me an at-home haircut. I think what he did turned out fantastic! Peep the pre-bleach and dye haircut here.

Once I saw how fantastic the haircut was, I knew we couldn’t stop there. I wanted Lake to try bleaching and dyeing my hair, too.

I am of the unshakeable opinion that my husband is good at literally everything, and I think he proved me right with the job he did on my hair.

I’m genuinely thrilled with the way this turned out, and I’ll definitely have Lake do my hair again in the future! I loved the whole experience. It was so much fun going through this process with him, and I feel so much better now. I feel prettier and more well taken care of. I don’t do a good job of taking care of myself like I should, but I really enjoyed the two of us spending time together and Lake taking care of me in this way.
